Target Audience

This activity is intended for physicians, nurses, physician assistants, allied health professionals, and other members of the healthcare team.


Learning Objectives

• Identify the regional active clinical trials.
• Recognize the unique presentation of disease in the ICU.
• List the strategies for the treatment of the aortic valve.
• Define the importance of the Multidisciplinary Heart Team in the process of Shared Decision Making (SDM) and optimal patient experience.
• Describe the diagnosis and management of hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy (HOCM).
• Identify the strategies for the treatment of atrial fibrillation.
• Identify the innovations in heart transplantation.
• Differentiate the novel anticoagulants and reversal strategies.
• Discuss Cardiac Advanced Life Support (CALS) and implementation in the critical care setting.
• Describe the long-term complications of ACHD patients.
• Discuss the medical and surgical management of complex congenital heart diseases.
• Describe surgical complications in ACHD.
• Describe the importance of teamwork in the care of the ACHD patient.

In support of improving patient care, this activity has been planned and implemented by MedStar Health and Georgetown University. MedStar Health is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.
